A Quick Stop in Turkey











On my way from Tel Aviv to Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, I had a 12 hour layover in Istanbul, Turkey and I made the most of it. I visited the Suleymaniye Mosque, the Blue Mosque, ate lunch on the roof top of the Seven Hills restaurant, walked across a cool bridge, and had some baclava. The city is half in Europe and half in Asia which I had not known prior to. It is extremely well kept and had many beautiful parks and green spaces. I was super impressed and definitely would like to spend more time there someday! After the journey back to the airport I met Courtney there and off we went for our adventure in Kyrgyzstan!

Having survived Iceland’s and Scotland’s roads, climates, and heavy Scottish accents for almost a week prior, we felt fairly ready for whatever Ireland could throw at us. The Land Down Unda!

It turns out one month of winter per year is the ideal amount. This gives you time to enjoy a wintery Christmas, get some skiing in, and then start hating the cold enough to move to a warmer location... queue Australia! I've been dreaming of going to Australia for who knows how long, so when we landed in Melbourne I couldn't help but laugh and pinch myself.  Finally made it!  It's not a short trip to get to the opposite side of the world, it was 30 hours of traveling and we arrived on their Sunday morning so we did our best to stay awake all day.  It was so nice to be back in summer weather.  I watched another cricket game in a random park and continued to not understand the sport - maybe one day.  Then we went on a free walking tour throughout the city.  Doug got his first serving of Australian pizza for dinner that night and then, due to a free upgrade in rooms at the hostel, we passed out in our own private room while watching the Australian Open on TV ...

The End of the Road: New England, Retirement, and Nashville

First off, I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you. Thank you to everyone who let me sleep on their couch, bought me a meal, or even just met up to chat and catch up. It means more than you know. And thanks to everyone who has and still is following along with the blog! Now that business is out of the way, let's move on to the east coast! Having lived in DC for a year, I was able to do quite a lot of traveling on the east coast during that time so I focused on the places I have not yet been. I began my eastern US travels by making a stop to see my homies in Cincinnati. It was a sports-packed weekend, I got to tailgate a Cincinnati Bearcats game with the Dombarts, watch the Packers game with Mike and Kara, and attend an FC Cincinnati game as well!
